My point wasn't about any philosophy but rather
Fully recognizing what your core sustainable talent is and finding the best thing they can do to give the best chance of winning against teams with a higher sustainable talent levels. Beamer found it with smaller, aggressive defenses and special teams. He could recruit those types year in and year out. But within that whole, the O played ugly. Fu might do it a little different with a type offense and have a D that helps win but plays ugly.
It seems there is a mindset said over and over on here that winning with one unit playing ugly is not acceptable. But to me that is a step toward winning more. Find what is the best thing that the players you can get year after year can do and make that your focus.
